110. Gunk War

RAW ✔️ The Aranthian Succession – Cinderak Burning, p80

"This may not be much, but it is mine and no mutie scum is gonna take it away fromme!"
- Gaen 'The Gunk Queen' Gorvos

In this scenario, a Gunk Tank must be defended while it is drained, before an attacking gang can destroy it.

Attacker and Defender

In this scenario, one gang is the attacker and the other is the defender. If this scenario is being played as part of a campaign then the gang that issued the challenge is the attacker, otherwise roll off with the winner deciding whether they will attack or defend.

Battle Type

This scenario is a Sector Mechanicus battle; vehicles and Wargear that grant the Mounted condition cannot be included in either gangs' starting crew.

Battlefield

Place a large object in the centre of the battlefield; a Gunk Tank from the Gang Stronghold kit is ideal. Mark out a ring with a 6" radius with the Gunk Tank in the centre to represent the Ring of Fire. The rest of the battlefield is set up using the Battlefield Set-up guidelines, as described in the Necromunda Rulebook.

Crews

This scenario uses the standard rules for choosing a crew, as described in the Battlefield Set-up & Scenarios section of the Necromunda Rulebook.

The attacker uses the Custom Selection (6) method to choose their crew. The defender uses the Random Selection (6) method to determine their crew.

Deployment

The defender deploys their starting crew first within the Ring of Fire. The attacker then deploys their starting crew anywhere on the battlefield outside of the Ring of Fire and at least 6"away from it.

Gang Tactics

Each player may choose two gang tactics from those available to their gang. If, during the pre-battle sequence, the total credits value of fighters in one player's starting crew is less than their opponent's, they may randomly determine one additional gang tactic for each full 100 credits of difference.

Ending the Battle

The battle ends at the end of a round when either only one gang has fighters remaining on the battlefield, five battle rounds have been played or if the Gunk Tank has exploded.

Victory

The defender wins if, at the end of the battle, the Gunk Tank has not exploded and they have at least one fighter left on the battlefield. Any other result is a victory for the attacker.

Rewards

Credits

The victorious gang adds 2D6x10 credits to their Stash.

The losing gang adds D3x10 credits to their Stash.

Experience

Each fighter who took part in the battle earns 1 XP.

Each attacking fighter that deals at least one wound to the Gunk Tank earns an additional 1 XP.

If the defender wins, their Leader earns D3 XP even if they did not take part in the battle.

Reputation

The victorious gang gains D3 Reputation. If either gang bottled out, they lose 1 Reputation.

Home Turf Advantage

The defender has the Home Turf Advantage.

Ring of Fire

The Ring of Fire is filled with gunk that has been set alight; any ranged attack that draws line of sight through it suffers a -1 penalty to hit. Fighters are subject to the Revealed condition while they are within 3" of the fire trench. A fighter may cross the Ring of Fire, but any that do suffer a S2, AP -, D1 hit as if from a weapon with the Blaze trait (note that this hit will not cause the fighter to be Pinned) after their move has finished.

Bottom of the Barrel

The Gunk Tank can only be damaged by melee attacks; it is considered to have 3 Wounds, Toughness 6 and a 4+ armour save. If it is reduced to 0 Wounds, it will explode! Any fighter within 3" takes a S5, AP -1, D2 hit with the Blaze trait.

Fleeing the Battlefield

If either gang voluntarily bottles out and subsequently flees the battlefield, their opponent automatically wins the scenario.

note

The Defence of Two Tunnels

If players wish they may use this scenario to represent the defence of Two Tunnels as Corpse Grinder Cults invade the settlement, attempting to consume all within it. The Gunk Queen and her brother desperately attempt to defend the industrial gunkworks by flooding the surrounding streets with gunk and setting it alight! In order to do this, make the following changes:
