104. Data-purge

RAW ✔️ Source: White Dwarf 476, Underdogs (05/2022)

note

The Underdog

This [scenario] makes frequent reference to an Underdog; an Underdog is defined as a gang whose Gang Rating is at least 400 credits fewer than its opponent's.

The gang is getting paid a stack of credits to fend off other gangs whilst incriminating data is purged from some binaric cogitators.

Battlefield

This scenario uses the Battlefield Set-up guidelines, as described in the Battlefield Set-up & Scenarios section of the Necromunda Rulebook.

Attacker and Defender

In this scenario, the Underdog is the defender and the other gang is the attacker.

Crews

This scenario uses the standard rules for choosing a crew, as described in the Battlefield Set-up & Scenarios section of the Necromunda Rulebook. Both players use the Custom Selection method to choose their crew.

Deployment

This scenario uses the standard rules for deployment, as described in the Battlefield Set-up & Scenarios section of the Necromunda Rulebook.

Binaric Cogitators

After deployment zones have been determined, but before crews are deployed, the defender places three binaric cogitators on the battlefield – these can be represented by any suitable marker. Each binaric cogitator must be placed at least 6" away from the edge of the battlefield and 8" away from any other binaric cogitator. Any fighter belonging to the attacking gang can perform the Hack Cogitator (Basic) action if they are within 1" of a binaric cogitator.

Hack Cogitator (Basic): The fighter makes an Intelligence test to halt the data-purge subroutines and preserve the data core. If the test is passed, then the binaric cogitator has been hacked and this action cannot be attempted on this binaric cogitator again.

Ending the Battle

The battle ends either after seven rounds, or when only one gang has fighters remaining on the battlefield, or if the attacker has hacked two binaric cogitators. If only the defender has models remaining on the battlefield, they gain credits as if the battle had lasted the full seven rounds.

Victory

The attacker wins if at least two binaric cogitators have been hacked or there are no defending fighters left on the battlefield. Otherwise, the defender wins.

Rewards

Credits

The defender adds D6x10 credits to their Stash for each round the battle lasts.

If the attacker wins, they add D6x10 credits to their Stash.

Experience

Each fighter who took part in the battle earns 1 XP.

Each fighter that hacks a binaric cogitator earns an additional 1 XP.

Reputation

The victorious gang gains D3 Reputation. If either gang bottled out, they lose 1 Reputation. The attacker gains 1 Reputation for each binaric cogitator that they hacked.
